Safeguarding Policy, Procedures and Guidance:
This document was revised in April 2019. Whilst substantially complete it is worth noting that it is a living document that will be updated and refreshed regularly.
Some guidance sections are still to be written and certain sections are subject to amendment in line with changes both in law and in Methodist policy. However, the policy is comprehensive in its reach and application, and an accessible source of advice and guidance.

We encourage churches and circuits to make good use of the policy templates that are available on the Methodist Church website.
The templates can be amended to take into consideration the local contexts that reflect the situations of each individual church and circuit.

Making sure we appoint the right people to the right jobs, and that those people are safe to take up these roles is a key building block of good safeguarding practice.
The Church of England and the Methodist Church work in line with the principles listed in the joint Safer Recruitment Policy. This policy reinforces our commitment to the safeguarding and protection of all children, young people and adults, as well as our commitment to the care and nurture of children within our church communities.
In practice, this will be evidenced through the careful selection, training and support of all those with any responsibility within the Church.
