A Prayer for Stephen Lawrence Day

Monday 18 April

God our Father and Mother of all,

the source of all justice.

You call us to radical action and not just empty words,

To stand-up against racism and all forms of discrimination to those you have created and loved.

On this 30th anniversary of the horrific murder of Stephen Lawrence

We call on those in power to speak out and act in places where institutional racism is part of everyday life.

Forgive us when we close our eyes and ears,

to the injustices of those around us.

God our Father and Mother of all,

the source of all love.

Move us to a radical love towards those

Who are hurt, angry and who feel abandoned,

We pray for the family and friends of Stephen

As they continue to fight for justice and change for all those are affected by racism each day of their lives.

Forgive us when we close our eyes and ears

Release us from our self-love so we can change a world in pain.

God our Father and Mother of all,

the source of all power

Let your Church speak out through the darkness and discrimination,

of your people, experienced daily by those in power.

Forgive us when we close our eyes and ears

to the shouts for justice and action.

We ask these prayers in the name of the God of justice, of love and power

who calls us to bring love, peace and freedom to all people.

Amen
