For me, one of the highlights of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018 was The Kingdom Choir’s stunning, stripped back rendition of Ben E King’s Stand By Me. That was the first I, and many of us, knew about Karen Gibson, the choir’s founder and musical director, despite the choir having been going more than 20 years, but after 1.9 billion people saw that performance, it’s fair to say Karen’s life has changed dramatically!

The choir have been in huge demand, giving concerts all over the world, and Karen herself has been dubbed ’Britain's Godmother of Gospel’ and awarded an MBE. ‘I feel that gospel music enables people to access the spirit’, she says, ‘it’s very spiritual music obviously but it’s able to reach outside the church and religious boundaries to be completely inclusive. I have seen the power of gospel music to change people’s lives'.
