A Prayer for Lent

Tuesday 01 March 2022

Almighty and everliving God.

You invite us deeper into your world, your people, your lent.

May this time be one of outward focus seeking you in those we too often ignore.

Help us deliver lent focused on freedom, generosity and encounter.

Give us hearts hungry to serve you and those who need what we have to give.

Loving God.

We lift up to you all those across the world who are affected by violence.

Those who are suffering.

Those who are afraid.

In your tender mercy, hold all those who are alone in their fear.

We also pray for those who perpetrate cruelty.

Who need your justice and compassion?

Merciful God.

In these troubled times, we lift up to you, our world leaders.

Give all those with power the will to use it for justice and peace.

We pray especially for those with responsibility for tackling climate change.

May they keep the most vulnerable at the forefront of their decision making?

Give us courage to face that the world is broken by the choices we make.

And the knowledge of your love to change ourselves.

Loving God.

We pray for the unity of all Christians.

That at this time of Lent, we might be enriched by our differences and look for our common ground.

We pray that all faith groups would work together in mutual understanding of your love and mercy.

We pray for all people of love and conscience.

Help us to stand united by our common humanity and seek peace.

Creator Christ.

You have known us from the beginning of time.

You have known us in the depths of our dreams and in the darkness of our shame.

You know us as your beloved.

Help us to own that identity more and more in this season of repentance and mercy.

Give us the assurance of your boundless love for each one of us.
