On Friday 10th March, the London District welcomed our friends from Ghana, which included 11 Bishops and two Synod Secretaries (one of which is the first female Synod Secretary in Ghana!) Our guests span from around various regions around Ghana. The visit followed on from District Chair Revd Nigel Cowgill’s visit to Ghana last summer where he visited many different regions throughout Ghana and attended their annual Methodist conference on behalf of the World Church Office.
During the visit Nigel shared with our visitors about how the London District is organised, the opportunities and challenging of mission and discipleship and the role that each Church and Circuit plays in the community as part of their calling to serve the church. Nigel reflected on his visit to Ghana and how each of the villages he went to, the whole village would come out to see who was visiting, which is metaphoric of the role that the church plays in our community as the Church should be the pillar of our communities. It was a fantastic afternoon filled with reflections, discussions and a grand tour of Methodist Central Hall. Following on from the visit, the Ghanaian Bishops and Synod secretaries also attend the Presbyteral Synod, which took place last week Tuesday at Clapham Methodist Church and brought greetings from the Methodist Church in Ghana to us all. We thoroughly enjoyed welcoming our guests to the District we look forward to meeting again both In Ghana and in London!
