London Methodism is made up of vibrant and diverse fellowships, mirroring the variety of the city itself, with people joining together in worshipful communities across all age groups and nationalities. One aspect of this can be seen in the many Young Adult Groups that regularly meet to share, rejoice and grow together (for a current list of groups meeting in your area see below).
However, The Missing Generation research report presented to the Methodist Conference 2011 noted that, across the UK as a whole, Methodism was largely under-represented by people aged between 25-40. In working to both combat this trend and further develop the great work already being done in our Circuits, the London District has commissioned The Missing Generation Group to help churches find creative ways to engage and equip young adults.
1. Equipping young people to lead
2. Attracting younger people into the church
3. Forming a network of young adults across the District
Working with Brixton & Streatham Circuit – chosen for its suitability of age spread in the church and local area - the MGG hope to pilot a scheme of equipping and enabling the church to run its own Young Adults’ Group so that other churches have a strong model example of how to go about this.
Through this pilot scheme, the MGG will collate resources and action plans that work in attracting people to the Methodist Church, who are between 18-40, and keeping them involved.
If you would like to get involved, or for more information, please contact Jai Njie
