Worship Task Group

The Worship Task Group Mandate was set up in 2007 for two years to respond to the “District Challenge for the recruitment and training of Local Preachers and Worship Leaders” and agreed until June 2009. The Group brought together the District Local Preachers Secretary and Assistant LP Secretary, with the District Worship Leaders’ Secretary and Assistant Worship Leaders’ Secretaries and others including Ministers, Local Preachers and Young People.

The members of the Task Group were then asked to consider, at their August 2009 meeting, the following questions:

  1. Is there a continuing role for the Worship Task Group, if so, what is the role?
  2. Did we as individuals feel inspired by our individual roles in the Group and would we be prepared to continue with our involvement?

All members of the Group agreed that there was a continuing role for the Worship Task Group and all were pleased to continue if the District agreed
From these proposed tasks a report was presented to the District Council in July 2009 to the Congregational Development Commission.

The prospective role for the group was thought to be:

  • The identifying of means to assist the recruitment, retention and training of Local preachers and Worship Leaders.
  • The support of the roll-out of initiatives to support and assist the above aims.
  • To promote the changing roles of Ministers Local Preachers and Worship leaders across the London District and the promotion of a better understanding of the implications of these roles.
  • The provision of means to bring together those called to lead in worship and preaching in the District and to ensure that administrative matters relating to worship have a natural focus.

While the group awaited confirmation that its mandate will be continuing a number of tasks were implemented during the year.
