Commission for Congregational Development

The Commission for Congregational Development seeks to be both proactiveand reactive – with both a supportive and a challenging role.

Initial plans :

  • To ask questions of congregations and to visit congregations, and hear about the issues that concern them.
  • To investigate the stories that have emerged from the Circuits, particularly those concerning ‘Congregational Development’, and to take note of the issues that emerge from these.
  • To respond to the needs of ministers, individuals and congregations. One of the major elements will be in assisting with church and circuit reviews.
  • Running some large events each year, perhaps District-wide or for a section of the District, in which different groupings of ministers, leadership teams of churches and church members can come together around particular themes.

Some ideas of the themes that might be considered in this way :

  • reaching people in their 20’s and 30’s,
  • church reviews,
  • developing dialogue (ecumenical, interfaith, with local neighbourhoods, with the world of work)
  • developing potentials within congregations,
    exploring music,
  • connecting congregations that wish to learn from each other.

The Circuit Review Handbook is available to download in two formats:-
